Disaster Mortuary Response Teams Do Important Work

May 16, 2014

In this episode of the Disaster Podcast, hosts Jamie Davis, the Podmedic and Sam Bradley are joined by frequent guest Dr. Joe Holley and new guest Troy Mead. Troy is a disaster responder and emergency management professional.

This week, we talk with Troy about his work with recovery and identification of human remains in the disaster setting. He is a member of a DMORT (disaster mortuary response team)which comes in and sets up mobile morgues and field centers for loved ones to help them identify deceased family members lost in a disaster.

This difficult but very necessary job is one that if often overlooked when talking about disaster responses, however, the recovery of the dead in a disaster setting is vital to getting a community back together after a major event like a hurricane, tornado or other disaster.
