Water

Water is a powerful element to a Shaman. It symbolizes purification, regeneration, birth, revival, and cleansing. Water can have enormous power, carving away earth and rock, moving boulders and trees as it creates a valley, or submerges them as it creates lakes and oceans. If human kind is in the way of its creative force, it can be destructive and end lives of people and animals.

It can be sleepy and lazy as it meanders in shallow rivers across the landscape. Water that is scolding hot but is not bubbling and boiling looks the same as water just before it freezes into ice.

Water can also be something we cannot grasp. When it steams, it is as ephemeral as breath. It can be hard and unyielding as ice.

Humans are 75% water. That includes our brain and our heart. Like the ebb and flow of the tides, allow sorrow and sadness, happiness and wonderment to flow through you now. Not only can these feelings be within you, but allow the world around you to flow over you and through you, knowing that you will remain and will move on to greater things.

This is like a baptism of newness and opportunity. There is a sense of newness, welcome it and embrace it

The Child

When we are young, we know the world is full of magic and new things to enjoy and it is a place for adventures. As we grow older, we lose that childlike wonder and appreciation for what is around us as we struggle and battle to make things happen that we perceive we want.

Recapture your childhood, you child’s sense of wonder.

Do it now!

Look around you without judgement, without a sense of doing, just receive.

Sit in a park, by a lake. Think of friends, family and your partner. Look at them with your child’s sense of wonder and openness. Appreciate the new things you see in them. Are they so strange that you cannot do this? No! Enjoy a return to your childhood and without an adult’s outlook.

Fire

Fire consumes anything that it touches. Flames remind us of destruction and the end of things but they also remind us of new life and things to come. Fire clears away what no longer is needed. In the forest, it creates the space and nutrients for new life, new trees and new undergrowth where animals can thrive.

In this reading we have water. Water can put out fire, fire can evaporate water, but in a relationship, when water and fire are in balance, steam is created that condenses back into water allowing the cycle of energy and passion to continue over and over again.

Fire provides warmth and cooks our food. On a dark night, fire keeps away the unknown and unknowable things that lurk at the edge of its light.

Now is the time to embrace what fire removes. People, places, and things that no longer mean anything to us but remain in our lives because we have not had the time or the strength to remove them.

Fire can be as simple as a candle that we can look at and be close to. If it is a scented candle, buy one that gives off a scent we feel pleasing and encouraging.

How is your temper? Are you frustrated and aggressive, short tempered, with yourself or others? Beware of threatening or hurting others with your fiery nature. It can back fire on you. Hurting others can hurt you.

Do not play with your inner fire when you are out of sorts but above all learn not to use your fire on others when it is your inner self that is unhappy and you are out of balance or angry. Make fire your friend not your enemy, or it will create enemies for you.
