Licensing Law Reform: with C. Jarrett Dieterle and Shoshana Weissmann

June 02, 2019

While conservatives and liberals tend to agree that occupational-licensing requirements are often unnecessary and difficult, little has been done at the federal level to reform licensing rules. In this episode, C. Jarrett Dieterle and Shoshana Weissmann join Devorah and Daniel to discuss possible changes that could have a lasting impact. While the most significant licensing reform must take place at the state level, there are steps the federal government can take to reduce licensing barriers and allow states to take further action.

C. Jarrett Dieterle is director of commercial freedom and a senior fellow at the R Street Institute. Shoshana Weissmann is senior manager of digital media and communications and a fellow at the R Street Institute. This podcast is inspired by their essay in the Spring 2018 issue of National Affairs, “The Licensing Logjam.”
