I’m not the biggest fan of TikTok, but the social media platform that seems to be consuming hours of society’s attention did introduce me to Dave Brubaker. For this, TiKTok, I thank you. I am Dave’s self proclaimed biggest fan. I love his content. It’s quick. It’s funny. It’s creative. Now that I’ve met Dave, I like the guy even better. What you find is a very disciplined entrepreneur and creator playing a clown in real life. I had so much fun learning more about the guy behind my favorite TikToks.

Dave is the founder of SemiStupid a content creation company known for his short cameo videos on TikTok. I love them. As someone who loves satire and movies, Dave’s brand of humor is right up my alley. Born in California, raised in Idaho and then transplanted back in California Dave Brubaker has found his calling.

Although he was an Accounting major in college and followed the ‘typical’ path to a ‘real job’ he said he always felt like a “fraud.” He knew he wasn’t doing what he was called to do. He knew he was a creative, and he would never be fulfilled until he unleashed his inner creator.

Eventually, he and a buddy, Tony, started a YouTube channel. After a while Dave knew the only way he was ever going to really give being a creator a chance was to go all in. So that’s just what he did. Man, I admire that.

He quit his job and began making hours of footage for YouTube honing his craft. Surprisingly, he didn’t get much traction at first. Then came TikTok. Again, he didn’t get a lot of traction and actually gave it up for a time. Then he created his first cameo appearance in a Chuck Norris scene. That was it. The feedback was overwhelming. Dave kept on and 1.5million followers later puts out a clip every single day.

What I really loved about this interview was learning what a self disciplined person Dave Brubaker is. We tend to think of creatives just following their passions, staying up late living a life of irresponsibility to the rest of us with only one passion-their art.

This is NOT Dave Brubaker. He considers making his TikTok content his job and treats it as such. He keeps a very disciplined schedule for both his work and his health and wellness. He and I had a blast discussing habits and routines we both deploy to try to continue getting better as humans every day.

I have to say, I nailed it by getting Dave on the show. I really love the guy. I can’t wait to see what his future holds, and I will be following him every step of the way.
