The $60 Million Cézanne Heist

May 15, 2019

The great French post-Impressionist Paul Cézanne’s “Boulloire et Fruits” fetched nearly $60 million dollars at an auction on Monday. In this week’s podcast, Guy Jennings of the Fine Art Group shares the story of the painting’s amazing backstory, including its dramatic theft in the late 1970’s from a home in Massachusetts, and his role as a Sotheby’s executive in its recovery and sale in 1999. He also shares his views on the picture, Cézanne’s market, and the importance of the painter both Matisse and Picasso called “the father of us all.”
