Jesus Christ the God-Man, What We Believe, Part 6

December 01, 2021
Jesus ChristRapp Report episode 200

Andrew and Jim Osman continue the What We Believe statement from the Striving for Eternity website series discussing God the Son, Jesus Christ. This is a branch of theology known as Christology. Andrew together with Jim Osman discuss the false views and beliefs people often have about the Trinity. Other doctrines believe that the Trinity is three separate Gods– God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. In this episode, Andrew and Jim collectively explain from the context of Modalism that God is not three distinct deities but changes forms of activity under which God manifests Himself. Thus, there is really just one God.

They also talk about Calvinism– the doctrine of salvation and the incommunicable attributes that only God possesses: omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence. These are one of the well-known topics that become debatable and are often used against Jesus Christ not being God and in turn, leads people to believe that Jesus Christ is created thus, he cannot possess the said attributes.

Moreover, other doctrine teaches the part of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ that when Jesus became man, they believe he surrendered the prerogative of being a deity.

Further down the episode, they talk about a question: Is Jesus still a man today?

The What We Believe statement from the Striving for Eternity website discussed is:

Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity, possesses all the divine excellencies, and in these, He is coequal, consubstantial, and coeternal with the Father (John 10:3014:9). God the Father created according to His own will, through His Son, Jesus Christ, by whom all things continue in existence and in operation (John 1:3Colossians 1:15-17Hebrews 1:2).

In the incarnation (God becoming man), Christ surrendered only the prerogatives of deity but nothing of the divine essence, either in degree or kind. In His incarnation, the eternally existing second Person of the Trinity accepted all the essential characteristics of humanity and so became the God-Man (Philippians 2:5-8Colossians 2:9).

Jesus Christ represents humanity and deity in indivisible oneness (Micah 5:2John 5:2314:9-10Colossians 2:9).
