Racial Heresy | Making Racial Reconciliation a Spiritual Practice
Personal Salvation and Collective Sin: Can You Have One without the Other?
Often times we think that our personal goodness is good enough.
What I mean is this: many of us are well-intentioned, good people. We just tend to stay out of the fray…we don’t get involved. We think that focusing on our own selves is enough.
Focusing on ourselves is important…but it isn’t enough.
It’s like when the cabin pressure fails in an airplane: focusing on ourselves is important, but it isn’t enough. We still are called to focus on those around us, because we are all in this together.
We apply that analogy to this idea of salvation (i.e. heavenly “goodness”). Is it enough for us to have our personal salvation, while we’re wallowing in collective sin?
