* [39% of internet users consume podcasts every month](https://datareportal.com/reports/digital-2019-q3-global-digital-statshot), according to research from [GlobalWebIndex](https://www.globalwebindex.com/) and compiled in DataReportal's _Global Digital Statshot_. The data is based on an online survey of 16-64 year-olds.
* Probably because it's only 16-64 and only internet users, these figures are significantly higher than the gold standard of Edison Research's Infinite Dial research, which gives the data as 32% in the US, 36% of Canadians, and 22% of Australians.

* Meanwhile in Australia, Roy Morgan Research claims that [8.1% of Australians are downloading podcasts every month](http://www.roymorgan.com/findings/8056-podcast-listeners-australia-march-2019-201907190703) . This data is compiled using face-to-face interviews.

* [Poor quality audio is less believable](https://news.usc.edu/141042/why-we-believe-something-audio-sound-quality/), according to research from the University of Southern California. It's highlighted by [SquadCast](https://www.squadcast.fm/), who [unveil SquadCast v2 today](https://podnews.net/press-release/squadcast-v2). The new design has been redesigned for mobile and desktop, and allows high quality interviews from anywhere in the world.

* [Google have added an 'Assistant Card'](https://9to5google.com/2019/07/20/google-assistant-resume-your-podcast/) to help you resume the podcast you were listening to earlier. The cards appear on Android phones. You can also say "Hey, Google, resume my podcast" on any Google Assistant powered thing, like a speaker or a phone, to continue listening.

* Congratulations to podcast host [Messy](https://www.messy.fm/), which has been announced as one of the [startups selected for the second Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs Accelerator, powered by Techstars](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20190715005103/en/). * In Australia, [Mamamia has launched a second daily podcast](https://mumbrella.com.au/mamamia-launches-second-daily-podcast-the-spill-589999). Called [The Spill](https://podnews.net/podcast/1473523403), it's an daily entertainment news podcast. (It's one of four podcasts in Apple Podcasts called _The Spill_, incidentally).

* Data: Mamamia's other podcast, [The Quicky](https://podnews.net/podcast/1451469361), has now "[surpassed two million listens](https://mumbrella.com.au/mamamia-launches-second-daily-podcast-the-spill-589999)". It launched on 18 February, so that's an average of 18,000 downloads per episode.

* Australian media outlets are [competing with true crime podcasts](https://mumbrella.com.au/the-australian-launches-william-tyrrell-podcast-series-589974), investigating the disappearance of three year-old William Tyrrell. [Where's William Tyrrell](https://podnews.net/podcast/1468450813) was launched by television network _TEN_ in June; but rival _The Australian_, a Murdoch-owned newspaper, has just announced [Nowhere Child](https://podnews.net/podcast/1472705867).
