Episode 101: Dignity and Pride

THIS EPISODE YOU ARE ABOUT TO LISTEN TO CONTAINS A TOPIC BETH, ANDREW AND I THINK PARENTS SHOULD LISTEN TO PRIOR TO THEIR CHILDREN JOINING THEM IN LISTENING TO IT. THERE ARE NO VULGARITIES OR BAD WORDS, JUST A SENSITIVE TOPIC IN THE SHADOW OF PRIDE MONTH AND THE INCUMBENT STRUGGLES PARENTS HAVE NAVIGATING THE SURROUNDING ISSUES THE ANNUAL CELEBRATION AND ONGOING INUNDATION BRINGS. WE DISCUSS THINGS PARENTS AND OTHER ADULTS CAN RELATE TO, BUT PROBABLY NOT SO MUCH CHILDREN. WE SHARE OUR EXPERIENCES AND THE ACTIONS WE TAKE IN THIS NAVIGATION PROCESS. IT IS NOT COUNSEL OR ADVICE, AS IT IS SIMPLY MEANT TO GET YOUR IDEAS GOING ON HOW TO NAVIGATE THESE WATERS AND THESE TIMES, RELATIVE TO THE PRIDE MOVEMENT, AS A CATHOLIC FAMILY. WE THINK YOU WILL WANT TO APPLY THEM IN YOUR OWN FASHION THAT WORKS WITH YOUR FAMILY DYNAMIC, AND WE THINK THAT DECISION SHOULD BE MADE AFTER LISTENING – AND BEFORE THE KIDS LISTEN – SO YOU CAN TAKE SOME TIME TO PRAYERFULLY DISCERN WHAT WE HAVE OFFERED. -KRISTOFER

As we experience an increase in the LGBTQ+ Pride movement, how do we navigate these choppy waters where human dignity and pride seem to collide? In this first part of this double episode of On the Road to Perfection, Beth and Kristofer address this question from Betty, a listener, discussing this difficult subject with their trademarked grace and kindness to help us all better journey through the seemingly crumbling world around us. Living in the modern world can be difficult and often uncomfortable as an authentic, practical Catholic. It’s supposed to be.

Understanding human dignity starts with love. Love is a difficult task. Listen to our earlier podcast on love to help with understanding others and where they are coming from.

We are all human, and that is a connection that cannot be lost. Treating other humans with dignity is a calling from God, in whose image all humans are made, because he treats us with dignity and we are called to be like Him. Offering our cloak, turning the other cheek, and treating others as we would like to be treated are all basic parts of loving our neighbor.  We never know all the hurt a [erson has in them, but we know they hurt, because we all do. That’s our common ground.

Every human person has dignity. Those who go to a Pride parade have dignity, Those who are in the womb have the same dignity. We must give every person the respect they deserve for being made in the image and likeness of God.

“The second is like it, love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mt 22:39 NAB)
