Episode 72: The Incarnation

What is The Incarnation? More to the point, how do we approach it in our daily lives, particularly as we prepare The Way of The Lord during Advent? In this fast-paced walk and talk, we cover this deep subject with good humor and solid exploration, without going into the theology too much. It’s a fun and lighthearted twenty minutes while we honor and revere the dangerous significance of this normalizing event of Jesus taking on skin and bones.

Despite the thoroughness of our conversation, the external references are fewer than normal; but that does not mean The Incarnation is any less important! As always, times are close but may be off by a second or two. As a bonus, it took The Incarnation to get us to provide a soundbite from one of Kristofer’s favorite Monty Python songs: It’s Christmas in Heaven!

3:16 Christmastime Is Here (Vince Guaraldi Trio)

4:17 It’s Christmas In Heaven (Monty Python)

5:20 Thanks Easter Bunny. Bawk! Bawk! (M&M’s)

7:57 Focus! (Karate Kid II)

10:34 I’m not dead (Monty Python and the Holy Grail)

10:36 What You Wanna Do? (The Jungle Book)

The book by Venerable Fulton J. Sheen that Kristofer mentions is Life of Christ, which has a relatable and easy to understand exposition about The Incarnation.

Of particular interest, we mention in this episode that Catholics revere The Incarnation at every Mass during the Creed. When we bow during the Creed, many might think we are bowing at the mention of Mary, which can cause some confusion about that age-old, worn out false claim that Catholics worship Mary. We do not. We are bowing at the awesome humility of Our Lord in The Incarnation, that He humbled himself so perfectly so as to become human and grant us, by The Incarnation, the opportunity to know Him personally and suffer with and for Him through the Cross of salvation.
