On The Road To Perfection
Episode 47: The Magisterium
The three legs of the Catholic Church: Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium. We cannot take away one leg and the stool still stand! We sometimes get mad at the bishops or the Pope, but we need to remember that the Magisterium is made up of humans. And humans make mistakes. So the Pope and the bishops will make statements that are not infallible. In fact, most of the claims an individual pope or bishop make are not infallible. If the pope says it is going to rain today, but it doesn't, we should not get upset at him for making a false statement.

The Catholic Church relies heavily on the Magisterium for guidance, and most bishops are (usually) willing to listen to an honest concern about Church doctrine and practice. We need to know that we are more likely to be the ones who have it wrong than a 2000-year old Magisterium if we have a conflict with them!
