The Most Alive I Ever Felt – OHS 128

October 09, 2019

Being alive is such an amazing experience. To even have a precious human body is such a blessing. Most of the time we are intellectually aware of the impermanence of life. But this does not mean we realize the truth of the impermanence of life. Knowing a thing does not mean we realize a thing. Often we (and by this I mean I) move through life as if we will live forever. We pay our bills, we buy things, we go to work... We focus on the things we think are important like cars, prestige, and getting ahead. One day my Buddhist teacher, Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche said, "one of the biggest problems humans have is that we think there will always be enough time." This statement had a deeply profound impact on me when I heard it. I started to reflect on a time when I felt the most alive. Interestingly enough, I felt the most alive right after my father died.
