A live music industry at crisis point & the cosmic stylings of Jarv Is reviewed

July 23, 2020

I got 99 problems and the overuse of this pun ain’t one.

On episode #99 of the podcast, Niall speaks to Shane Dunne of Indiependence, booker with MCD and one of those involved in the EPIC (Event Production Industry Covid Working Group), ahead of Songs From An Empty Room event this weekend, an event to highlight the production and backline of the live music industry and their importance. We talked about why Ireland’s live music industry badly needs government support for the first time ever in a time of a pandemic where regular gigs are allowed to take place.

Niall and Andrea review new tracks from Devendra Barnhart, The Avalanches, Illuminati Hotties and Berwyn. And the cosmic stylings of Jarv Is (Jarvis Cocker and friends) are reviewed in this week’s album of the week.

Jarv Is… — Beyond The Pale
In 2017, Jarvis Cocker was asked by Sigur Rós to perform for their festival in Reykjavik.

At that gig, JARV IS was born, and was roadtested in front of a live audience. With players including London post-punk band Bas Jan members Serafina Steer and Emma Smith, the James Taylor Quartet’s Andrew McKinney, All Seeing I’s Jason Buckle and Three Trapped Tigers’ Adam Betts, Beyond The Pale is an “alive album”.
