She jumped from an airplane in June 2017 to conquer her fear of heights that paralyzed her for over 25 years. Born in Columbia to a middle-class family. Was always eager to travel the world since she was a little girl. Her opportunity came when she was offered an HB1 visa to work as a Software Engineer with a Texas company. Although that line of work was great, she always knew she could be more..

This Episode Summary

Ms. Rogers came to the United States from Columbia when she was in her early twenties. She calls herself a life coach with a “Latin twist.” She says she always wanted to travel, and with a degree in software in engineering, she was able to make that dream come true. She moved to Texas to work for a company that sent her all over the world until she settled in California.She shares the freedom her engineering degree provided because she didn’t have to re-learn anything. After twenty years of software engineering, she has changed career paths and become a life coach.
One of the struggles she shares of adapting to life in her new homeland, came from doing business over the phone, especially in Texas where the accent could be hard to understand. She advises others to immerse themselves in the language of the country they choose to live in. Watch T.V. or read books in the language you are trying to learn. However, you don’t need to sacrifice your culture and accents are sexy.
She has kept the love of food and family, common in Columbian culture, alive in her own family, and her children are bi-lingual. They also visit Columbia regularly. Her only remorse is not being closer to her own family. She explains that it’s important to make yourself clear in what you do and don’t want in your life and gives the example of how she wanted her children raised. She shares how her wishes for her children’s upbringing were clearly stated, even in her divorce papers.
