Father Dan Horan: The Beautiful Mess of Personhood

June 24, 2021

"If we believe it's all up to us, then we think we have to have static, clear, concrete answers...but God continually creates." - Father Dan Horan

[POWERPRESS]

Season 3, Episode 10 of Messy Jesus Business, hosted by Sister Julia Walsh.

IN THIS EPISODE:

Sister Julia Walsh talks with Father Daniel Horan, professor, author and columnist. They discuss how he came to discover his vocation as a Franciscan, and they consider the importance of encouraging one another as Christians. Father Dan also talks about what he calls Holy Spirit atheism, which he says puts us at risk of acting in ways that are contrary to the will of God. "The Holy Spirit tends to fall off the radar. The Holy Spirit is the proverbial third wheel of the Holy Trinity." He explains.

"I think if people remembered that the Holy Spirit is God's self, the gift of God's self, that draws near to us in all of creation in all times, it starts to change our way of thinking and being in the world," he says.

"How might our lives look different if we recognize that we are not alone, that Jesus's promise in the Gospels are true?"

From there, Father Dan and Sister Julia reflect on relationships, and what it means to be in "right relationship" with others.
