Sister Emily TeKolste: Called to the Work of Justice
"We're all called to holiness. We're all called to prophetic action. We're all called to the work of justice."
- Sister Emily TeKolste
Season 3, Episode 5 of Messy Jesus Business podcast, hosted by Sister Julia Walsh.
IN THIS EPISODE:
In this episode of Messy Jesus Business podcast, Sister Julia Walsh talks with Sister Emily TeKolste about justice: what it is, and why systemic change is so complicated. They talk about the work of justice, which we are all called to do, how our liberation is bound together, and how we can go about achieving justice.
"You may not be able to organize, but you can march, and together we will change the world," Sister Emily Tekolste explains.
They also discuss how alternative models of community, like nonviolent anarchist movements of resistance, can be in conversation with those working for justice and change within established systems.
In addition, they explore the messiness of justice work, including staying in relationship and loving those with whom we disagree. And how mutuality allows space for the creation of something new.
"The messiness is in letting go of the preconceived notions, the plans and the expectations, and the strict goals and letting things emerge as they emerge in community," Sister Emily Tekolste says.
During the course of the interview, Sister Emily refers to Highwomen, a song performed by The Highwomen which you may listen to here.
