Lisa Deam: We Are All Pilgrims
"In a real sense we are on a journey to God, we're seeking him, but the whole time God is with us."
- Lisa Deam, author, "3000 Miles to Jesus: Pilgrimage as a Way of Life for Spiritual Seekers"
Season 3, Episode 1 of Messy Jesus Business, hosted by Sister Julia Walsh
IN THIS EPISODE:
In this espisode of Messy Jesus Business, Sister Julia Walsh and Lisa Deam discuss pilgrimage as a spiritual practice.
"I define it as a sacred journey, or a journey to a sacred place," says Deam. "I write about it because when I started getting a little more in to pilgrim's journeys, it really reminded me about what the Bible says about how all of us are pilgrims."
They also discuss how Deam's background in medieval art history plays a role in her faith. "We live in an information era, a research era, a knowledge era where we can learn and look something up in a matter of seconds. And I feel like a lot about past ages in history--like the medieval era--can help us recover a little bit of the mystery and grandeur of God."
In addition, Sister Julia and Deam explore the paradoxes of faith and being a contemplative.
"In a real sense we are on a journey to God, we're seeking him, but the whole time God is with us. And we couldn't get to God without God," Deam explains.
