MedicCast Episode 437
Good day and welcome to this week's episode of the MedicCast. I'm your host, Jamie Davis the Podmedic and I'd like to welcome you to this week's show. In this week’s EMS news items we’ll take a look at several news items as usual including a novel piece of research that looks at how Twitter and other social media data could be used to predict emergency room peak patient flow.
Then in the special interview segment this week from EMS Today back in February, Chris Montera from the EMS Garage sat down with Dr. Ryan Gerecht to talk about the use of TXA in prehospital trauma patients. Will this be coming to a drug bag in your service? We’ll find out later in the show after the news.

Tip of the Week: Using TXA in the Prehospital Setting
(http://www.mediccast.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/paramedic-IV-medication-200x300.jpeg)At the EMS Today conference in Baltimore back in February, some truly amazing speakers addressed the crowds of EMS providers there. Chris Montera, host at the EMS Garage podcast, sat down in the Physio-Control Podcast Studio with EMS medical director Dr. Ryan Gerecht. Dr. Gerecht started out his career in EMS as a volunteer EMT and was at EMS Today to talk about the prehospital use of TXA in EMS trauma cases. TXA is an anti-fibrinolytic. It stops your body from breaking down clots which is important in cases of trauma. Check out the segment with Chris and Dr. Gerecht.
Thanks again to Physio-Control, EMS Today and JEMS for having our podcast studio in their exhibit hall. Find all the segments we shot from the conference here and at the ProMed Network at blog.ProMedNetwork.com.
