MedicCast Episode 434
Good day and welcome to this week's episode of the MedicCast. I'm your host, Jamie Davis the Podmedic and I'd like to welcome you to this week's show. This week’s show is a little special as I got the chance to do a live web stream with the National Association of EMTs, the NAEMT, during their opening ceremonies and briefing for members who were in town for the EMS On The Hill Day event.
This is the event that offers constituents who are EMS providers and medical directors to meet with their congressional members and their staffs and talk about EMS issues. I won’t play the entire event here on the segment but I will play the pertinent parts of the briefing that talk about the Field EMS Bill that is before congress and the U.S. House of Representatives EMS Caucus and the proposed Veteran Emergency Medical Technician Support Act of 2015.

Tip of the Week: Field EMS Bill and NAEMT
(http://www.mediccast.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/EMS_on_the_Hill_Day_logo-300x169.jpg)Coming up next is the official lobbyist for EMS at the Federal level, Attorney Lisa Tofil who is a partner at the firm, Holland and Knight in Washington, DC. She covers the purpose of the Field EMS Bill and how to talk to your congressional leaders about it, which you can do by email or over the phone right where you are now. Then NAEMT Industry Relations Manager Melissa Trumbull comes up and talks about the EMS Caucus, which is the group of EMS providers who are also congressmen and women. Then Melissa talks about the Veterans Emergency Medical Technician Support Act of 2015 which helps veteran military medics and corpsmen transition to civilian EMS positions.
I urge you to listen closely to this episode and consider contacting your congressmen and women to show your support for these bills before the Federal Government. I’ll have links where you can find out who your representative is and how to contact them in the show notes for this episode. Take some time and support these initiatives to make our jobs a bit easier on the street.
