In this episode, Alay and Marc discuss:
  • Networking beyond the business card.
  • Building a book of business.
  • Being visible in the communities you are a part of.
  • Tips for making the most out of your networking meetings.

Key Takeaways:
  • When building your book, start early, join organizations, go often, and go curious.
  • Volunteer your time to make other people’s lives easier. You don’t have to find time to make yourself relevant, you will already be relevant.
  • Play can be work that is fun. It is called netWORKing, but it can be fun!
  • Get to meetings early, go prepared, and, if you go with someone, separate to cover more ground then meet up to give introductions and connect further.

Tweetable Moments:
  • “The key is to get out of your shell, get out of your room, and go be with other people. Doesn’t matter what you’re doing, just go be with other people.” —  Marc Hankin
  • “Get up, get out, and make yourself known.” —  Marc Hankin
  • “There is a benefit to doing these activities, even if you’re scared to do them.” —  Alay Yajnik
  • “You always need to be looking at how you can help somebody else if they come to you with a problem or something that’s troubling them.” —  Alay Yajnik
