HH 022: A Printmakers Journey (Bryn Gleason)

December 03, 2020

Bryn Gleason is a Chicago-based visual artist and printmaker specializing in Intaglio. Her work has been featured in galleries, art shows and festivals in Minneapolis, New York, Denver, and her adopted hometown Chicago. Bryn lends her creative talents to cocktail programs wherever she lives, showcasing specialized knowledge in agave spirits. In our discussion we speak about Bryn’s journey to Chicago, her “A-ha” moment with intaglio copper etching, correlations between the art processes she finds most interesting and agave spirits, artistic inspiration during a research trip in Mexico, and her path to creating commissioned beer labels for Pipeworks, Spiteful Brewing and Hacienda Beer Co. Bryn creates weekly episode artwork for Heavy Hops and has collaborated with Axel Widén to Scorched Tundra Posters, in addition to commissioned work for Swedish doom trio Monolord.
During our conversation Bryn walks us through three different works, they can be found below:
Work #1: Mia Sorella
Work #2: Mia Sorella ll / Eternal
Work #3: LadyFish
Bryn Gleason has created a playlist of heavy music to accompany the episode and a viewing of her work. Listen in HERE. Her work can also be viewed together with other printers at Chicago Printmakers Collaborative’s Small Prints Show (running until February 6, 2021).
