HH 010: The Nature of Beer Retail (The Beer Temple)

September 10, 2020

The Beer Temple is a renown bottle shop and taproom located in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood.
Owner Chris Quinn is obsessively focused on the curation of quality beers, guest experience, and all the details in between from the types of light used to the temperature at which beer is stored and dispensed. It is this drive and focus that has garnered accolades such as best Bottle Shop in Illinois on Ratebeer for multiple years and a widely held feeling among every brewery sold in Chicago that it is imperative to be present in their bottle shop.
In our wide ranging conversation with Quinn we discuss the beginnings of Beer Temple, foundations of his palate, integrity in craft beer, impact of climate change on beer and whiskey, secondary market, defining artisanship, contemporary craft brewery ranges, taste making, responsibility as a quality focused retailer, and what the future of craft beer may look like. And that’s just the beginning. Crack open a beer, put a few more on ice, and let’s dive and get heavy.
