Robert Pickton – 124 – Generation Why

June 08, 2015

Robert Pickton. One of the worst serial killers in North American history, Robert Pickton was a pig farmer who looked for women to bring back to his farm to torture and kill from the mid 1990's until the early 2000's. He claimed to have murdered 49 women, though he was initially tried for only six of them as the judge felt that jurors would not be able to handle all twenty-six counts, and their details, in a single trial. The justice system in Canada allows for a maximum of 25 years in prison and Pickton got just that. What happened on the pig farm? How was he able to get away with these crimes for such a long time? How many murders did he really commit? To help us explore this dark case we will be joined by Meriem, a criminology student from Montreal.
