2 Sam 11 And someone said
Someone should have said Guard YourselfDavid has come off of some really big victories. Quite the trajectory- Shepherd boy to Goliath slayer to being pursued to being King. From nothing-Charge of Israel- Many have conjectured what led up to this point in David’s lifeMost commentators agree- it was pride behind this escapade- Thinking of himself more highly than he ought- believing his own press clippings- Pride can bring anyone to think they are invincible- we see it in leaders all the time- Start believing they are something they are not- feeling like they can get away with anything- so they try to- give themselves over to the desires of the flesh (not just sex) No one is immune to them-
David would not have ended up in this predicament if he had guarded himself. Had he realized the pressures of life, the success of life, and the dangers- he would have guarded himself and set guardrails around himself and his life to keep him from Murder/SexDeuteronomy 22:8 “When you build a new house, then you shall make a parapet for your roof, that you may not bring guilt of bloodshed on your household if anyone falls from it. Parapet- Cover- Defend- is the root KJV- A “battlement” If you don’t protect the roof- someone falls off- and its on you-But ALSO Protect yourselfEx 21:28-29 and it has been made known to his owner, and he has not kept it confined, There is an accountability to lack of preparation- You KNOW what is going to happenYou have violent dog that bites- Get rid of it. David didn’t put guard rails around his lifeHe was untouchable at this point and decides to touch whatever he wantsProverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.Isaiah 2:11-12 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, READ
What does it mean to youAre you setting up guardrails and parapets in your life? Are you watching your success?Sometimes success is scarier than failure and people will self-destruct out of fearBut we KNOW the weak areas of our life but we pretend we don’t need the guardrail Obadiah 3-4 The pride of your heart has deceived you, You who dwell in the clefts of the rock, Whose habitation is high; You who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’ 4 Though you ascend as high as the eagle, And though you set your nest among the stars, From there I will bring you down,” says the Lord.Pride can come in many forms- but when it comes to the sins that entangle- we think we are stronger than we are- God can save, deliver, set free, change, but wrong place, wrong time etc. Ive seen marriages destroyed, kids in jail, total and complete destruction- NO GUARDRAILSDon’t go to stupid places with stupid people doing stupid things at stupid times (No downtown)1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.RUN- Have NOTHING to do with it- Don’t dabble in it- No one falls in Grand Canyon from TexasEphesians 5:3
Someone should have said Stay in the fight (he should have been at war) 11:1 READ It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle,Not only did David not Guard himself, he took himself out of the fightHe never should have been there- if had been doing what he was supposed to be doing it never would have been an issue- He was supposed to be at war- but chose to stay homeEcclesiastes 3:8 A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace. This part of the Bible says that war was commonplace- “We war in the spring” lol- WARMust have just been what they did- men went to war- that was their jobWas he scared ? Was he lazy? Its not night time- couldn’t have seen her- Sleeping i...
