Show Notes, May 2, 2017
Welcome everyone to the May 2nd edition of Dead Reckoning Radio! I am your host, Jay Friesen joined around the table by Hadley Heath Manning and Dr. Brian G. Mattson. DR Radio is where we discuss the latest in cultural topics from a distinctly Christian worldview.
We have 23 5-star ratings on iTunes you guys. Here’s why. Because we’re talking today primarily about Heresy and BEER.  Yep, The New York Times and a Heineken ad. I know, some of are you like, dood, you have that beard! You should KNOW that Heineken isn’t real beer. Whatever. It’ll be good discussion. We’re also, OF COURSE, playing two games of wit and whimsy coming out of our sponsor breaks.
We do want to thank today’s sponsor: Alliance Defending Freedom- Defending your right to freely live out your faith! You can find out more at www.adflegal.org. We’ll be hearing more from them at the break.

Quick Takes

* 13 Reasons Why – Netflix has a new original series garnering a lot of attention because it covers the topic of teen suicide. Some are concerned that by glorifying suicide it will encourage others who need real help. Is there a problem with dramatizing suicide? Is it possible to handle the topic without inciting vulnerable people?
* Dead End For the Mainline? Speaking of suicide, a recent article in the Washington Post suggests that mainline Protestantism has a mere 23 more Easters before it goes extinct! That is, if they don’t do something to stop the sharply declining trend line. So, guys: why are mainline denominations crumbling?
* Plantinga Wins the Templeton Prize – Christian Philosopher Alvin Plantinga (“Planting-uh”) has been awarded the prestigious Templeton Prize for his decades of work in the philosophy of reason and belief. Many would argue that Plantinga almost single-handedly put God back into the academy with his brilliant arguments that religious believers have adequate reasons for their beliefs. He’s got a reward in heaven, of course, but that $1 Million dollar check is nice, too.
