We all need healing

July 15, 2019

Often in life, we find either our self or others in need of healing. It may be due to damage from an illness, an injury, emotional hurt; there are times we need healing.

I want to take a look at how God heals us, are there times when God doesn’t heal, how can I deal with it when I’m not healed, and has God made any kind of promise to us about healing.

How does God heal? Sometimes it’s through a miracle. In Luke chapter 5 verses 12-16 the story about the leper shows us that method. The leper’s faith and belief in Jesus was strong and Jesus healed him.

I especially enjoy reading about those times when Jesus would heal someone and for whatever reason the “religious folks would get all upset.” One example of this is in Mark Chapter 5 Verse 3 when Jesus healed on the Sabbath, “He entered again into a synagogue; and a man was there whose hand was withered. They were watching Him to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. He *said to the man with the withered hand, “Get up and come forward!” And He *said to them, “Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to kill?” But they kept silent. After looking around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, He *said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.” According to Jewish law, it was unlawful to do any type of work on the Sabbath and the Pharisees are watching Jesus to see what He would do. Jesus asks them if it was lawful to do a good deed on the Sabbath, if it was ok to save a life. They did not answer Him and even though that irritated Him, it did not make Jesus pause, and He went and healed the man. Those are just two of at least 30 times the New Testament tells us about a healing miracle. performed by Jesus.

Another key ingredient necessary for healing is Prayer; in fact I believe it is central when we are in need of healing. In James Chapter 5 Verse 14, we find “Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord”. Strong faith plays a role in all situations that require healing.

Another very important way that God heals is by providing physicians and medicine. I believe that God has given physicians the knowledge and the desire they have to help. Without the power of God behind them, without the ability God has built into their genes, they would not be able to have the success rate they have. When I had my eye issue starting back in November, I firmly believe that God put me in the hands of not one, but two very strong Christian doctors, who saved my vision.

Unfortunately, even with everyone praying for us, even when we have the very best in medical care, sometimes, we are not healed. Why doesn’t God always heal us? There is no clear-cut reason why God heals some folks and not others. I believe that if we continue to profess our faith and trust in God no matter what we are going through, then we will learn and grow from our circumstances. As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians Chapter 12 Verses 7-10. “Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this, I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’ I believe that Paul is saying that since the knowledge he has received about the risen Christ is so powerful that in order to keep Paul from becoming so full of himself,
