March 07, 2024

Segment 3, March 9th, 2024

There was a F3T 2024 Film submission made by Salt Box Film that has a ton of topics tucked into it.  It’s called Pop’s Flies.  Filmmaker Clay Hervey joins host Bill Bartee to help unpack the many topics that take place in his film.

The star, Pop, was born in Missouri in the late 19th century—the story starts when he (Harry K. Cameron) moved to Colorado Springs in 1900 as a 6 year old. He grew up fly fishing some blue ribbon trout streams in America (the S. Platte & the Arkansas Rivers).  Using his fly rod throughout his teenage years & into WW1.

Show Highlights:

  • How Clay discovered the family & the topic?
  • How difficult it is to tell a families’ story?
  • When the emotions of the story were discovered
  • The topic of mental health & the use of fly fishing & the outdoors to help
  • The importance of a journal?  Pop began keeping on when he retired in the 1960’s
  • What part does this black book play in the film?
  • Tickets to the Fly Fishing Film Tour 2024-Charlotte edition are available here.
