Unbound - Finding Freedom From Grief with Khadijah Moon Ali-Coleman

January 25, 2016

Cafecito Break with Rosangel Perez and Ruthie Guten and Special Guest - Khadijah Z. Ali-Coleman. Our topic "Unbound"
When Khadijah lost her friend and music collaborator Derrick "D.Marq" Smith, 33, in 2012, due to a stroke, she instantly took to writing to work through her feelings. The single "Unbound" was written almost immediately, a message to remind herself that life was still to be lived despite her intense sadness. The single was released in 2013 and led to performances throughout the East Coast as she worked on subsequent singles and worked to build up her interest in writing music and performing again. Less than a year later after releasing "Unbound", the unthinkable happened, and she lost her mother in a tragic car accident. Music once again became solace as she wrote out her feelings regarding the unresolved relationship she had with her mother who she loved intensely and who had had her at 19, raising her alone all her life along with her four younger siblings. Listen in on a very powerful vulnerable conversation,
