Majority Division

May 07, 2015

With the votes counted it seems most of the electorate agree – but on different things. One of the least expected outcomes was for the Conservatives to increase their majority and, in doing so, usher in a new era of political stability. After considering the context leading up the ballot, and today’s market moving non-farm payroll report, we discuss the market’s reaction and prospects for the future with Neptune’s Chief Economist James Dowey.

Whilst a referendum on membership of the EU and uncertainty over the constitutional make-up of the UK loom on the horizon other organisational issues such as more regional devolution and greater integration of the northern powerhouse could become priorities for a majority Conservative government.
