Located in Northwest Louisiana, Natchitoches is the oldest settlement in the state and is part of the Cane River National Heritage Area. Along with outdoor activities like kayaking, hiking and boating, there are plenty of fun shopping and dining destinations, as well as family-friendly parks and historic sites that appeal to young ones including Cane River Creole National Historical Park, Fort St. Jean Baptiste and Fort Jesup State Historic Sites, Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame & Northwest Louisiana History Museum, Kisatchie National Forest, Cane River Lake, Grady Erwin Nature Area, and Briarwood Nature Preserve.
