Better Than Ever Daily
92. Moving more during the day helps overweight older adults lose weight and keep it off
Moving throughout the day can help older, overweight individuals lose weight and keep it off, even if they don’t exercise. In a new study published in the journal Obesity, researchers at Wake Forest University enrolled 183 obese or severely overweight adults between 65 and 85 years old. The participants assigned to a regimen called SitLess, which asked them to move around more frequently throughout the day to achieve daily step counts, lost weight – 16 pounds on average – and kept more of the pounds off than those in more structured aerobic exercise programs. They also were more likely to remain engaged in the program than those who participated in treatments involving traditional aerobic exercise and weight-loss strategies.
