The BBQ Central Show

Rescuing Parts of American History One Piece At A Time!

January 14, 2021

(January 12, 2021 - Hour Two)

In the second hour, we will be breaking format a bit as I visit with first time guest and new sponsor of the show, R.T. Custer from Vortic Watch Company. I have been a long-time watch appreciator and purchaser from time to time. Men don't have a lot of options for jewelry, but a good watch is both functional and stylish! R.T. and his partner founded Vortic in an effort to restore some of the magic that America once had as it relates to watch making. Did you know that there was a time in our history when we manufactured a ton of watches?? Back then, they were of the pocket watch variety coming from companies like Ball, Waltham, Elgin and many more. However, the popularity of the pocket watch faded with the emergence of the wrist watch. Vortic has saving these pocket watches and turning them into wrist watches. It is an incredibly interesting story of business and how they are telling stories from the past through their watch making.

Tonight I am closing the show in a way that has never been done before. Since 2018, the show has been inducting guests we feel should be in the show's "Guest Hall of Fame". Tonight I will do something that I hope will never need to be repeated. I will be suspending one of the Guest Hall of Fame inductees from the inaugural class of 2018. I do this after an abundance of research, interviews and information gathering on the subject. If you cannot join me live for this segment tonight, I hope you will take the time to listen to it via podcast when it is released Thursday.
