Pat Valentino describes her background in banking as “long and colorful” and she certainly has done just about everything there is to do in the space. She has worked for small banks, giant banks, regulatory agencies, technology vendors, and is now Chief Relationship Officer at a consultancy, CCG Catalyst, which sponsors the Bank Fintech Fusion podcast.
It's no secret that banks today need to take a cue from the fintech companies focused on customer experience, Valentino says. She discusses the appeal of the user experience that defines so much of fintech, focusing on some of the earliest disruptors, alternative lenders. Banking needs to continue looking at problems from the consumer point of view, and this is where fintech companies can play an important role. But banks still need to operate their business profitably, and this is where they in turn can help fintech partners.
Fundamentally, Valentino advises that banks need to go to "back to the basics with an eye to the future."
