Christian Love ~ Episode 317

One thing I love about being a Christian is that God’s love can’t be contained. It is overwhelming and vast, unlimited, and unconditional. It is the opposite of human love or what we consider love to be. There are many different types of love in the Christian sense. But without getting in the weeds and the different types of love (you can look those up for yourself), I want to focus on God’s love for us—the love of the Creator.

Thanks to NOW Programs, this evidence-based program helps students learn differences.

We hear things like – God loves you! And you may think, does he? I don’t feel like that right now. He does. You were made with the complete knowledge of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Believe it.

Part of understanding love is believing it exists. We are here because we have a purpose, a function, a job to do in the sense of being part of the human race but more than that. As a believer, and I hope you are if you are listening to this podcast, you know that Romans 8:28 holds true.  “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.”

You have been called according to his purpose, and whatever that purpose is for our individual lives, we must remember the grace from the Almighty will equip us daily.

God so loved the world; we hear this, and we know it. 1 John 4:7-10 (read on air).

Think about those words.

Those who love are God’s children. Why? Because they know God.

How do we know God? The theme of this entire podcast is A Few Minutes With God Podcast … spend time with God. From now on, from this podcast forward, my new ending will be a reminder, “Spend time with God!”

Because when we spend time with God, we get to know Him, we read about Him in His Word, and we read verses such as 1 John 4:7-10 and think wow, that is amazing love for me.

The verse goes on to say, “Those who do not love do not know God because God is love.” By His very nature, God, the creator of all that is good and beautiful, spoke the world into being. But this love, which is God, asks us to serve but does not demand it. It is up to us, and we have free will. The reason our world isn’t totally beautiful is that sin entered the world by the enemy that would not serve.

Just like walking out into traffic with fast-moving cars will likely cause an accident and someone’s death, it is a choice. It is the wrong choice, but our choice nonetheless, which is why there are consequences.

Yes, bad things happen to good people, and we can’t explain them. We can’t explain the forces of nature or the sinful actions of others. But God understands it all. He realizes our pain and hears our cries.

God sent His only Son for our salvation, and He took on our sins. How can we fathom that type of love? When we are annoyed, when we are upset, when we feel like things are not working as we want them to work, we must remember that truth.

Friends, if we as Christians demonstrated Christian love to others, we would change the face of the earth. Just one person at a time, one smile at a time, one kind word at a time. One of the priests I enjoy online talked about making micro-progress in his faith walk. He said to work on the little things each day. Write what you want to improve upon and do it! I will discuss that in a future podcast, as it is a great idea—little steps. Baby steps.

What is Christian love? It is self-giving. Just as God gave His life for us, we can give of our lives for others in so many ways. Do you volunteer for a ministry, visit the poor, or do other works of charity? Those are generous examples of God’s love pouring out of us toward others.

But more than that, love that is overflowing and can’t be contained flows to others. It is the commitment and decision to do for others and to do for ourselves by investing our time in a deeper relationship with God. Do it today.

And don’t forget, spend time with God. It’s not too late. Be blessed.
