Growth In Progress
179: Hate Following: Why We Love to Hate
We’re back after a short summer break, Helena has turned 30 and Charlotte has a new addition to the Growth in Progress family! This week we’re chatting about the relatively new phenomenon of hate following – is it rooted in comparison? Is it for a moral ego boost? What’s the science behind it and why do we see it more in the female social media sphere?
Hate following is deciding to follow someone on social media, despite the fact that you don’t like them, don’t agree with what they say or dislike them as a person. It’s something that’s being spoken about more and more – why do we love to follow people we don’t like or don’t agree with? It feels like a new era Heat Magazine and it’s an important topic to identify and unpack, especially if you spend a lot of time online.
