What Doesn’t Kill You

If you’re anything like me—which I’m guessing you are because you’re here on the Trauma Hiders Club—you likely have experienced one or more of the following phrases that could be harmful to people who experienced trauma:

“Time heals all wounds!”

“I’ve been there, too.”

“Everything happens for a reason,” or, perhaps the bestseller,

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!”


In this episode, I discuss why these phrases, though sometimes said with good intentions, aren’t helpful and can even be harmful to people who experienced trauma. I also share what you can do when faced with people who are committed to misunderstanding you.
