The green bean casserole is, undoubtedly, the Thanksgiving fan favorite. But I think of it the way I think about practicing gratitude: I don’t like it, I don’t want it, and I’m going to move it all around my plate until I get the chance to surreptitiously feed it to the dog.


If you’re someone who, like me, feels ashamed for not counting your blessings enough, gratitude can be a hard green bean to swallow. But give yourself some grace, compassion, and the opportunity to feel what’s real for you—that may just be the most generous and beautiful way you can experience healing and gratitude this year.


In this episode, I share my difficulties with practicing gratitude as someone who has experienced—and continues to experience—the effects of trauma. I also describe how, by working with trauma-informed practitioners, I’ve slowly opened up to the light of gratitude.
