Thunderstorms moving in from the west

Thunderstorms are beginning to redevelop west and south of the Kansas City area this afternoon. While we don’t have a severe thunderstorm watch yet, one will likely be issued soon. For the most part, they remain below severe limits at this moment. Heavy rainfall also remains one of the main threats this afternoon and evening… likely just south of the metro area.

UPDATE:

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH has been issued for areas east of the metro area until 9pm tonight.

UPDATE #2: Johnson county, KS and Jackson county are now under flash flood warnings. Some of the automated observing sites have reported rainfall approaching 2 inches in the last hour. Excessive runoff from this downpour could cause flash flooding in low lying areas and along creeks.
